Walk in the Dark (Free verse) by Carvaceous

To walk in the dark requires skill Thus you might avoid the pounce of a scream If not tread carefully guilty claws you might feel tapping from shoulder to spine They pierce through flesh but wince not in pain Until bone is hit. Skip along ever quietly for fear the pounce of a scream If not claws then perhaps fangs you'll meet. But become acquainted first with the rancid breath upon your neck Slinking down your collar Tickling each rib Playing upon your stomach Permeating the air with its bitter taste It will settle in your throat almost suffocatingly Gag upon it and swallow it down Try to spit it out, all done in futility It claws at your throat with such fervor It's in escapable.
