Benevolent Oasis (Free verse) by drnick

Sparks rain from fission skies With annoying iridescence. As far as my eyes can see Not one place to hide. The ground softly hums With dull dying light. A scorched surface and Not one place to die. I run for life, for comfort, I duck under burning trees. Eroding umbrellas Surround me and escape. Panicking, tripping onto Hot ash and embered floor. Swimming through glowing Smoke to find a friendly shore. Tired and raw, I take A final forfeited fall. Down into cool waters Skin split and balmed. Turning over to tortured sky I glimpse glimmering chaos. Calmly slipping into murky abyss Choking water, sucking bliss.

If Dali had rhymed more often, he'd have done something like this.
