Eulogy for a Poet (Free verse) by Dovina

Up to the mic a poet walks Frost in his belly fire in his heart pictorial at first his chosen words an ordinary scene then changing abruptly elegant, elite his first mistake A touch of melodrama shows he’s childish comically untrained caught in the moment rush of emotion perceptively rushed void of sound structure not carefully penned his second mistake Arrogance and indifference his third mistake naïve street poet ignoring wholesome criticism repeating mistakes reading after reading remaining oblivious Other mistakes deserve mention but these most affected his work through the years til he died without shame or regret thinking his verse had grown stronger not vulnerable and vestigial not easy prey for savage poets A delicate thing he was poet without growth
