Pennies (Free verse) by woodstock20000

I wonder when I stopped picking up pennies. When their value suddenly wasn't worth it anymore. I grieve for that day. The day when pennies lost their magic. When it became a mere hundredth of a dollar, instead of a miracle of God. I used to always think, "I wonder how it got here." Traveling, through the years, the pockets, the floors of life. Till it came to this spot, and found me. And I would pick it up. And put it in my pocket. And take it to its next destination. Thinking how lucky I was. To have such a treasure.

I like the thought; think perhaps the poem would work better if you just started it at "I used to always think", maybe ending one with one last line summarizing the cut lines--"I grieve for those lost days"
