New Year (Free verse) by emilyowey

New Year, I beg you, please be new. I know the party started, an hour or two too soon, but I did not pop the cork. I was waiting for you, but life stepped in and I tasted much too soon. Be new, New Year, I 'm asking I was saving the toast for you. You promised and I listened, but the bubbles would not wait. I let it fill me, without you, but knew it was not time. I let it hurt me, and I just don't know why. I was given your pleasures, before you were here- It tasted sour without you... Now you're here...and bitterness invades my mouth. Be new to me, New Year, for my newness is swept away.

Perhaps a touch self-pitying and a little open to personal interpretation, vagueness and subtlety are not the same thing.
