Problem -- what about really well-written poems that purposefully have neither depth nor meaning? Silly poems, in a word.
I rarely defend this point of view, but depth and meaning can be overrated sometimes. Look at the dear old Reverend Dodgson. I care not what the Freudians say, his things mean nothing, are not deep, and are absolutely brillig.
