in order to encourage ranking, i suggest that a user not be able to post a comment unless he has ranker. once he has voted, the switch will be set to 'on' for all future comments (unless the piece is edited, in which case the commenter will have to vote again before commenting). that way, we may stop getting poems with 20 comments and 2 votes.

Hmm. That's not a bad idea, Tilde, but it might prove annoying in some situations. For instance, how would you have given me your comments on that little translation of mine and explained why you didn't vote? Just little things like that. Perhaps of no consequence. Decent idea, really.

but, what i would have done is given you a five. so very noncommital. i thought about asking for a 'no vote' option, but i fear that would just encourage THEM. (half kidding, half serious)

I'm rather liking the idea. I can see cons, but nothing "serious", especially given the haphazard nature of everything here.
I'll ponder it for a bit, and wait for other opinions to trickle in. A simple hack, give or take. :)

Not sure about that.
I think comments are more valuable than votes, which are often undone with blue zeros. Anything that discourages people from commenting is probably bad.
well, the name of the site is poem RANKER, you know. so, i was just suggesting we stay true to our founder's vision!
the idea sounds good.. but sometimes i dont find things worth voting for, and keep my votes for poems that i feel call for it.
but thats just me.. wont bother me too much if im forced to vote if i want to comment. -shrug- |
