Dear Nentwined,

I wish to put forward an idea that I strongly believe to be highly advantageous to all on this fantastic site you have created.
I have noticed a multitude of writers complain that their work is not perused often enough so why not offer points for people who offer constructive critique so that they can use these points to run competitions, these points can also be used ot advertise your work and the competitions can be of any genre from freeverse, haiku, love, hate, pimple, sonnet about anything the competition organizor wants it to be. Comments could still be left by users and at least this way the writers who are in denial of their inability to write bad poetry will know why they are so poor.

I think users like Gods Wife, ZZinnia, who always elaborate on their opinions on where a poem is bad/good would be good examples of useful, insightful comments.

Good day Sir

The cheif obstacle to any sort of progress on poemeranker is nentwined himself. He seems to have lost interest. Poemeranker is just something that felches about in the background while he plays starcraft. Your suggestion requires the Web Master to actually make an effort. I daresay it is doomed to failure. You fail.

I will take this as closure on the matter, thank you.

Its a shame if what you say is true for I read that YAHOO and certain literary circles hold this site in high regard, and this site has been copied rather poorly (poem.nu) comes to mind.

don't take my word for it for goodness' sake!

poem.nu is about to feel my wrath

poem.nu sucks big hairy (something). I mean, I'm no graphic designer, or user interface guru, but ... eww!

Though their search results are a bit nicer.

I'm afraid I haven't managed to play starcraft in some time. Employed, though, is on the ball. And working on things unrelated to employment in my very few snatches of time away from said employment, but those things aren't poemranker as often as they used to be.

I'm curious to hear your idea in more detail. And... do you have ideas on how to keep people from just creating new accounts and gaming the system by giving "themselves" more points? Or would points be given out by some "trusted" moderator? Or...?

EEEK. people actually get new names to vote for themselves? wtf.. thats pathetic.. hrmmm. ;) i think i have an idea, it would require analyzing the traffic log and programing something that would reconize a certain users ip address or ip subnet. (a users isp usually will have its own original hostname and ip subnet.) It probly wont be precise, since dynamic ips will have slightly changed ip/hostmask each time the user reconnects. Then program it to recognize similiar ips/hostmasks between users and to look over the votes of the suspected user(s) and see if the sighted clone is voting for the poetry of the alternate username.

Nobody does that. People are just paranoid and think that their poems are wonderful.

when in reality they suck

Nentwined,
Points would be awarded automatically to encourage users commenting and offering a helpful critique. For example if one writes a critique with 20 characters or more 2 points are awarded, 40 characters (4 points) and 60 characters (6 points) 6 should be the max points and pasting would have to be avoided as point manipualtion.

The site must be able to detect cretins doing this for example.................grthrhryj5j5j just to gain points. The purpose is that users can accrue points and run competitions and advertise their poems, they can also keep a list of their favourite poets so that each time they write a new poem a message will be sent to say : Dark Angel L Jesu is with me, this way people can return the favour, a rapport is built and if some want to committ tomfoolery by writing downright offensive critique then they will be fined points and will not be able to submit for 2 weeks.

This is only an idea, and if the truth be known its not all my idea, Fenshaw my Butler made the suggestion.

Finally maybe 10 or so site administrators be delegated by your good self to maintain order and assistance to users, this would also help you my boy as you strive to enlighten us all with your new venture.

To conclude would one tell me where one could purchase this game 'Starcraft'? I have a ZX spectrum and An Atari system are they a bit old ?
