Hey, um, I might be displaying appalling ineptitude here but I can't seem to find a description of the criteria based on which a poem goes up or down the ladder. Other people's votes affect your rank. I get that, but what else? Do you get pushed up the list the more you vote and comment on other poetry?

Just that, actually.

Continuation: Do you think something could be done about the 'random' option? Every time I click it I get a poem by crystal lane swift (or lydia evelyn). It's driving me up the walls. Shouldn't the random button provide a random poem from the entire archive collection of poetry?

I've got this.

Nentwined says random rotation is decided by the poems least recently voted on. I maintain that its the poems voted on least, despite that nentwined is the designer of the site and computer-savvy, while I can barely manage to work solitaire on my mobile phone. My theory would explain why crystal, who recently reposted all of her abyssmal poetry (ie, sans votes) shows up on every random hit, while tens of thousands of low-vote posts lost in five years' backlog of mediocre posting don't.

Either way, considering mediocre-to-bad posts are less likely to get votes than good or so-bad-they're-good posts, the random rotation is bound to always be crap and basically like walking into the room ass-first. It's all rather Californian and democratic, you see. The only way to make them disappear is to vote on them. I recommend goose-eggs.

Oh. Thanks for the precise answer, zodiac; in view of those facts, I think I'll stick to my tried-and-true technique of choosing a random poet and reading their poetry until my eyes pop out. But I do wish there was a genuine 'random' option which provides you with *any* poem from the entire site.

There's no random here, you just get the crappiest stuff the computer can find, I think. You just kind of have to find a poet who is...whats the word..the least bad, I guess. Try Zodiac's stuff...it's actually not bad...maybe Shuushin, Dovina, -=Dark_Angel=-,P.I., INTRANSIT, Nentwined...you may find some good stuff among those...I know you will, in fact. However, like with my poetry, you will have to search the mounds of poo for the peanuts. Thus is the Poemranker.

How touching. richa, too. Just don't forget to read a lot of actually good modern poetry while you're at it. I'd recommend Poetry Daily's last-year archive, at
http://www.poems.com/archdate.htm

Try it. You might be surprised.

Why do you call him richa? The IP implicates wilco. Whoever the critic is, I am hurt to passionate sobbing to be called as good as zodiac.

I think he's adding richa to the list of the best bad poets on the net.

or at least on the ranker.
