Eyes (Free verse) by tre
It's like I'm not even here.
I dont't exist to you.
I'm just a pathetic ghost you can see through.
She stares at me, then at you.
Watching. Waiting. Waiting for our eyes to meet.
Mine and yours.
She looks at me not as if she hates me,
but as if she wants me to like her.
To give her my approval, say "it's OK that you're with him."
You put your arm around her,
blatantly showing me you've moved on.
I was just some girl who managed to catch your eye.
You look so cocky, sitting there,
legs outstretched under your chair.
Your best friend's near by.
I know him too.
He looks at me, but I look to you.
Not for long, cuz she might see.
See the magnetic pull between you and mee.
So many eyes.
Mine, yours, hers, his.
Always darting across the room,
never fixing too long on one person.
Unless. Unless, it's you and her.
That's allowed because she is yours now.
She looks at me, I look down.
Afraid of what may be found,
inside of me, buried deep beneath
the front I put on, when I smile through my teeth.
