A Natural Witch (Free verse) by Lenore
Sheâs full of hidden forces,
In circle to discover power in herself,
Powers that have lain dormant;
Secret reserves of ability,
Only waiting occasion to leap.
She can tell how much
Weight a Man may carry
Without stumbling,
And how much grief a Manâs
Heart can suffer without breaking.
She multiplies the X,
In the problem of Nature;
The unknown quantity
In the universe.
She is the pioneer,
To whom the danger
From the unknown,
Beasts and Demons
Is a welcome fillip.
She laughs,
At the doubtful edge of life,
And sings in the face of death.
She dances,
With the force that surges up
That meets and measures
Up the task.
She sees,
That chaos only calms her,
Clears her brain,
And steadies the hand
While others go insane.
She knows,
That defeat only rouses
Dogged strength.
And fear is the Devilâs other name.
She is unafraid,
In losing herself
In the thing to be done,
And does it,
Caring not for heaven or hell.
There is no spell to produce her.
The choicest heredity cannot breed her,
Schools cannot prepare her,
Religion cannot form her.
She is not a Myth.
She is better,
Sheâs a Natural Witch
