If When We Die (Free verse) by lynnkyle
If when we die we see the person we most want to see beckoning to us to join him I'll see you If I were to die at this moment you would be waving at me your sillhouette in front of a neon sunrise my heart racing I'd walk to you knowing you were there waiting for me That you had been thinking of me. That you wanted to be in my company as much as I wanted to be in yours Granted you aren't dead yet and I'm not anywhere close to dying just now Given my DNA I'll probably live to a crackly and confused 100 plus years I'll be leaning back in an electronic self adjusting rocking chair watching my shows well padded in my Depends I'll close my eyes for a moment not even realizing that I am closing them My heart still murmuring to the last will cease beating my thoughts will drift to that tawdry book I finished reading months ago then on to what I want to eat for the dinner I'll never consume (fried chicken and mashed potatoes, most likely followed by something chocolate) and finally hover over one of the moments when we made love It would make me happy to have you waiting for me but I'd be even happier if behind you but still prettily outlined were all the other people I've enjoyed the company of over the years Of course I'd want them to make themselves scarce with discrete throat clearings and be right backing's when you reach out to gently brush my face with your hand and whisper in my ear tickling me to let me know that you'd waited what seemed like an eternity for me to arrive
