The Awakening (Free verse) by Kitch
Waking up is like grieving Take me back to my dream For that was something to believe in This reality just rips at my seam. I was with you just moments ago You lived again under my eyes We rolled around in the snow And kissed beneath the starlit skies. Every time that I awake You are forced to go back to sleep And each dawn is a new heartbreak Through my eyes you weep. I see each day as a punishment For loving you too much We could never feel too close Even when we would touch. For I had heaven when you were here It does not exist beyond the sky If this is life and you’re not near Then I must choose to die, And then all my waking will all be done But we my love will set like the sun, Side by side where we belong In life I was weak But in death I’ll be strong.
