The War Jesse Owen style (Free verse) by oldschool
They were thrown into war, like some sort of wrong. Pushed into that disgusting uniform Of Green vomit hiding a nations pride Or so the leaflet said, a "brave man's storm". Their faces reveal nothing, not the pride Of men fighting for lives, just hidden things. Hidden like a lie, a bad little lie That bites back and hurts just as nettles sing. They wont return, perhaps a few, a few Much to show for death in roses newly bloomed? Much to show for thousands marched to doom? Perhaps again when this war will resume! Bite back? My heart has been broken twice, twice! On the fields of battle time will stand still. And dead men do not argue with the result Argue for all the men who never will. It bites like a shark, likes jaws opened wide. Don't be bitten, work hard to stay alive! I saw the face of war on my Grandads eyes He'd go again because he's programmed Programmed to die for the sake of country Programmed to die for the sake of those who wont recall Programmed like a machine to "save us all"
