Last attempt at "My Father's Dreams" (Free verse) by Joe-joe
Iâve stopped shivering.
The cold sweat running down my back is no longer a factor.
Nor are the remnants of last nightâs rations
Which have been blown from my bowelâs
and now take up refuge
in my government issued trousers.
Save stillness
that thief who sneaks up behind me
Barging in on the madness of it all
Softening the screams of my brothers
And nudging me ever so gently
Away from the shores of this time and space.
Lights go out
Sounds fade
The stench from the battlefield
Still riding that wind on due course
Past the pain and suffering of this God-forsaken war
To the deepest part of the ocean
Where together, we evaporate.
