When Fairy Tales Forgive Us (Free verse) by J.B. Manning
We were Sitting in the dark Listening to the dark Waiting for the dark To swallow up our hearts But nothing saves the day And nothing dulls the pain When everything’s the same And you’re tired of this game It’s time to face the shame Of the things I’ve done to you And the things I’ve done to us Of the lies I’ve told to you And the lies I’ve told to me We were lying on the floor Drowning in our tears Together we were there Facing our worst fears And asking for a chance To beat this thing at last But there’s little we can do Until my eyes see you And I see my guiding light And I find the strength to fight But I’m lost inside my skin The addiction’s closing in And I’m running from myself While you’re sitting on a shelf Waiting for the day When the demons go away And the fairy tales forgive us For the lies that we have known And the angels In our lives Become devils in disguise And everything we do Is the hardest thing we’ve done But we do it anyway And we face another day When the darkness fades to gray And the Fairytales forgive us.
