Daddy, Please? (Free verse) by elizabethann
Sitting in my room every night,
locked up as though in a cage
I write my words of hate on this page.
The smell of death surrounds me,
I can hear the laughter outside
and it makes me wonder how long ago my soul died.
I'm fed every now and then,
hearing his words of pure hate
surely this life is not my fate?
Bruised and scarred,
not knowing where to turn,
I'm uncertain of what I'm about to learn.
No one cared before,
I let no one into my heart
but seeing you there tore me apart.
I opened my door,
and turned on the light,
I was ready for a slap to begin our fight.
But all I saw was a grown man crying.
Expressing his pain in the only way he knew,
doing the only thing he could do.
Daddy, please.
Won't you be nice to me?
I love you, can't you see?
Getting to his knees,
begging for a chance to mend ...
I was ready for my daddy to be my friend.
