Memories (Free verse) by bsjones84
My mind wanders to my life passed, Plays the memories' games, No fading recollection dances in the light, The way things use to be. My heart smiles at the joy, Of the life of which memories made, Rising warmth in my soul, To remember former ways. Distant recognition sobers my joy, For I've travelled a long way, From the adolescent observance, That fills the memory. Retreating into numbness, My joy slips away, Gnawed with icy teeth, Warmth starts to fade. Overcome with sadness, For I see my iniquity, Angered with its reality, Memories of a new day. Neither night's memory, Serve recollection well, Better to forge new memories, Serving memory well.
