Summer Repose (Free verse) by jdsnyd
A suggestion of lilac
on early summer evening wind.
Restless uncertain air,
advocating rain.
Last draw on last cigarette,
contemplating bed,
but too content in this moment.
A sudden move may break the flow
and I'll never find it again.
Ephemeral, harmonious peace.
Everything from here on
trivial in contrast,
but I wait, hoping.
It may come, it has before.
Amazing that I am surprised when it does,
like the culmination of what we surely were
or perceived we were...
it's harder to tell anymore.
Summer winds stir suddenly
and discernment is scattered.
Fragmented opinions never quite fit again
or were they delusions?
Doesn't seem to matter now.
I swim in the wake of your memory,
content in these waters
'til summer winds stir again.
