Change of Address (Free verse) by Rumidi
You did not get my message
For you have done some shifting lately.
I do not know
Your new address
Or the changes in you.
My news isn't newsworthy,
With cliches I always end:
I do not dream of my marble castle
In the jungle of your tales
Under sleepless stars of its own
With shadowy pines and gales,
I do not hear calls of the wild
And take constitutionals too,
The neighbours still turn a little mild
When they ask after you,
Some new jasmines have stopped
At my garden you had planted,
The leaves have now dropped
From the rain-tree you had wanted,
Its boughs have now changed wing-
New redbreasts have moved in,
The old warblers who used to sing
Have moved away unsung, unseen.
I do not have their new address either.
