Night Ways (Free verse) by Tekara
A trick of the night, a turn of the card, A change in the flickering light, the vampire is there to greet you. He smiles so softly, the glow turned within, A creature of evil, so legends say, Yet, "not" says the man and all of his kin. Take a glimpse in the shadows, to see as he does. The life that he leads, so different from what he was. "We're not what you think!", he cries in the night. But the hunters still stalk him, and set him in flight. He whispers to you like a leaf in a breeze, "We're just like you who love and die." He halts for a moment and you listen real hard, only to hear the sound of one lonely cry. "Don't hate us for what we've become, and what we are destined to be." "Just look in the mirror and then look again, and realize you could be me?"
