You Chose (Free verse) by jshicke
You Choose
We move toward the future,
But live in the past.
We believe we are winning,
We're coming in last.
We all want to fight,
Someone's got to lose.
Believing we're happy,
Yet singing the blues.
Want to control life,
Fail to see that it's fate.
Preaching out tolerance,
Feeling the hate.
Seeking out currency,
To placate our soul.
While others in humanity,
Seek grains for their bowl.
What glorious hypocrites
We make ourselves to be.
Righteous indignation,
Upon mankind's fraternity.
Who made this a contest?
A battle of wills?
Lies and contradictions,
Giving me chills.
Go forth and examine,
Your life and motivation.
Seek out the meaning,
Of this senseless fornication.
Why must we have others
To measure ourselves against?
Why must we harbor theses feelings of angst?
If forever in competition,
We are all gonna lose.
Only one will remain.
Which ending would you choose?
Companions together, with one goal in mind,
Or the last person reading the last poem in time?
