he stumbles into the room supported by crutches made from folding plant stands toilet paper bandages cover each and every limb dotted with inked blood and held together with two packs of band-aids “Just back from the war Mum” he limps yesterday it was a pizza shop converted from our garden shed up for sale now due to a fire some damage good price though $6000 so the hand painted sign read the soldier makes himself comfortable on the recliner “Mum, you gotta watch this bit” I can only watch his excited face his crutches folded by his side upon his knee a pillow supports a battlefield of knights and dragons Zero Mostell’s twisted features glare madly from the screen in A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum the wounded soldier crunches ice and laughs freely the mornings entertainment comes to a dramatic conclusion the soldier standing waving crutches singing baritone “I am a Parade” and I think Yes my son you are
