Cormac Plays (Free verse) by Skamper
he stumbles into the room
supported by crutches
made from folding plant stands
toilet paper bandages
cover each and every limb
dotted with inked blood
and held together with
two packs of band-aids
âJust back from the war Mumâ
he limps
yesterday it was a pizza shop
converted from our garden shed
up for sale now
due to a fire
some damage
good price though
$6000
so the hand painted sign read
the soldier makes himself comfortable
on the recliner
âMum, you gotta watch this bitâ
I can only watch his excited face
his crutches folded by his side
upon his knee a pillow
supports a battlefield
of knights and dragons
Zero Mostellâs twisted features
glare madly from the screen in
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum
the wounded soldier
crunches ice and laughs
freely
the mornings entertainment
comes to a dramatic conclusion
the soldier standing
waving crutches
singing baritone
âI am a Paradeâ
and I think
Yes my son you are
