soft candy (Free verse) by skaskowski
A liar's cheek
propels the words
that brush against your feet.
That climb like vines
right up your spine
to bloom beneath your teeth.
I spoke a spell,
it worked too well.
You fell into the drink.
Soft candy bullets with knives tied to them
slip through the trees
and clip off the leaves.
Small paper people with knives tied to them
climb up the trees
and clip off the leaves.
and all along
I mutter 'bout:
"The horrors one could think!"
and all along
I mutter 'bout
"The roots beneath your feet!"
and all along
I ponder 'bout
"The curtains on your face!"
They dangle down
like dollar bills
and mingle with your sleep.
You gotta make friends with what you see
shake hands, say "thank you please"
start throwing your weight around
chipping at the tile til the skeleton's out.
Soft candy bullets with knives tied to them
slip through the trees
and clip off the leaves.
