Nothing Broken, Nothing Saved (Free verse) by somemorepoetry
The scientists were going crazy in the ballroom
Weâve found it! Weâve finally found it!
And they turned back time another week.
There was vodka and champagne and
Lobster tails scattered across the floor.
The tables and chandeliers shook.
Women threw themselves across the tables
As men threw off their white coats,
Afraid of nothing in a room full of gods.
We are the living truth. The inability of
History to subjugate the human race and
The inevitable victory of intellect.
And the hallway wafted out into the street,
The vomit and alcohol working its way
Out every open window, under every door.
They stumbled and fell and in the corner
It glowed and they laughed because
The answers were now everywhere.
With every busted table, every overturned chair
They found the blind, shaking power
Of the beauty they had always wanted.
Blood splattered against white table cloths.
Empty bottles smashed against brick walls.
And so many naked bodies twisted up circuitry
Signals flying everywhere and nowhere.
Then one by one they gathered themselves, at least
The ones who hadnât died in the heat of things,
And marched single file through the glowing gate,
Promising to warn themselves of all that lay ahead.
