Zooidal Veldt (Free verse) by Wulf
Her striped flesh jumps
Wide eyes reach behind
Legs twitch
an involuntary kick
She is running
an unnamed fear at her heels
and this moment more alive
than ever for ever before
The hot breath of time takes a lick
She shudders at shadow fang
Her quickened blood howls for release
yet a second wind reaches
Never have her legs carried her so
told her fair what eagles know
Panic and predator teach
true life lies just out of reach
The cliffs call to her
hooves pounding to the edge
Children throw popcorn
squeal at her antics
No danger here was she born
kept by these noisy creatures
have stolen her virtue
and offered her shame
These are all she knows
yet the bottoms call to her
Plunge into us your wild soul
Lay claim your right of birth
Gripped by a rage of days
the taunts and giggles of upright fools
she forgets to remember and
death returns to her eyes
