love in mute, or (Free verse) by skaskowski
you were my dream before i ever grew eyelids. hell, the sight that i saw before these fleshy flaps gave me the option to block away the obvious and focus on the rediculous. things like, uh, you were a song before i ever grew eardrums. yeah. before i was ever given the chance to selectively hear. and just like radio stations interfering, your endearing words punctuate. "i was always near" you were the first touch i felt. i felt you through the vacuum, you were massaging my face and legs and i lacked a lot of nerves but i was just as entranced as legs caught up in a seizurely dance for which there's no explanation. after all, i was just embryonic motion in an amniotic ocean. you were the voice i first heard through all the liquid. you were then touch i felt you through all of the darkness and i said the vaccum already but yeah .and you were the first taste in my mouth before my tongue was complete. i can still taste you through those vestigial memories. you were the first thing i smelled before my nose had grown. you brushed against my gills and i knew you were there, so i reached out to you with one fin or a tail thrust between my legs to brush against you like you had brushed up against me. all along the canals of my ears and my birth stitched together like neither way i'll never go back or hear or slit those stitches with a scalpel and do more damage backwards inward.
