Philosophy King (Free verse) by crooked_smile
he came in, with his tail in-between his legs, and caused such a fuss. As soon as Michael and Alex hear his bark, they came bounding down the stairs, tripping over their shoelaces. As the rounded the banister the called out Philosophy, and were answered by another bark. But you should have seen them when they got in the kitchen. I'm telling you it was the funniest thing ever. Alex spoke first, exclaiming, "he's a girl?" Of course Michael seeing the absurdity in this, shoved his brother, explaining that, boy dogs cant turn into girl dogs, he's obviously playing dressup. Michael, being the older and more responsible, took it upon himself, to pull Philosophy over to the corner behind the refrigerator, for a "man to man" talk. "We've been over this already boy, girls are weird. They have cooties and germs, even worse than dog cooties and germs." (blank stare) "Well boy?" (licks face) (trots back to the center of the kitchen) "We're going to have to give him a new name now, Michael." "Why?" "So that people will know he's a boy, duh." Now if the reader is confused let me clarify, we never know where this old mongrel goes off too, but this time, wherever it was, they braided his hair, and painted his toenails pink. "We should make him a crown, and name him king?" "That's a stupid idea." "Nuh-uh, he owns the whole neighborhood anyway." "Fine, whatever, you do whatever you want, but I'm washing my hands for dinner." "C'mon King, it's time for dinner." (rolls eyes). "Alex he doesn't know his name is King yet." "Oh." "C'mon Philosophy King, it's time for our dinner."
