Do you see? (Free verse) by Pen&Ink
Do you see that ghost standing next to me?
Thatâs the man I used to be.
A man I once knew.
A man who was free.
Now he haunts my shoulder,
Shadowing me like a weeping tree,
Reminding me everyday that
Nothing can remain free.
Do you see the prison?
The prison around you? The prison around me?
Accept it my friends,
None of us are free.
The passion, the love.
The apathy, the hate.
Religion and war.
Desire and fate.
Hopes and dreams.
Agony and pain.
Wind and snow.
Sunshine and rain.
Four-walled worlds,
Need I explain?
We are all prisoners,
Donât you see
That only in death
Can we ever be free.
