The Invitation (Free verse) by Billy Fights
Without fear I write these words knowing
Youâll never read them
Even though I told where to find them
Scribbled along the edge of the sidewalk
A note written in chalk
Instead youâll run home tonight
To avoid the coming rain
And unless you drop your eyes
This message wonât be here in the morning
So without further presentation
âGive me some thought despite your hesitation
Accept this invitation
To run around in circles backwards
And see what Iâm saying
When I sing with my eyesâ
You could watch as my emeralds
Turn to dirt, and from dirt to diamonds
From diamonds to rattlesnake venom
Venom turns to fire and I will burn
Buried in ashes until the spring
