The Invitation (Free verse) by Billy Fights
Without fear I write these words knowing You’ll never read them Even though I told where to find them Scribbled along the edge of the sidewalk A note written in chalk Instead you’ll run home tonight To avoid the coming rain And unless you drop your eyes This message won’t be here in the morning So without further presentation “Give me some thought despite your hesitation Accept this invitation To run around in circles backwards And see what I’m saying When I sing with my eyes” You could watch as my emeralds Turn to dirt, and from dirt to diamonds From diamonds to rattlesnake venom Venom turns to fire and I will burn Buried in ashes until the spring
