Legends never die (Free verse) by luzrheroguy
How can I look at you, and see twin faces
Truest love and darkest foe
Is it time for us to run the back streets?
Am I really falling for your poisoned scent?
We both know I should know better
You always talk of the good times
When we were barely more than children
Playing as partners, in a dangerous city
Taking things as they came, ever chasing more
Then I remember the day you died in my arms
I spoke at your funeral
But they never got to the burial
I watched you rise, changed
And you laughed before you struck the first blow
It was dry, heartless, and cutting
I couldn't win the battle
We both knew it,
So I thought I'd settle for the war
Then you killed me
Just as planned
I was born to do this
Legends never die, Not forever
You knew I had extra lives
So here I am, looking at what you've become
One year later
I feel like I just woke up
From the worst year of my life
And here you are
Alive and breathing
In a bed you never slept in
In a house across town
Where we grew up,
Private confessions and whispered secrets
You still whisper to me,
Don't you
Are you playing me for the fool again?
Ready to strike when I least expect it
Or have you honestly been restored
To the girl that used to draw me graphic stories
Of her first rescue from the lonely dark
You always were afraid to be alone in the dark
It looks like here I am again
The arrogant fool seeking to be your hero
Just one thing I want you to remember
If you plan on killing me
Stab deeper this time
