Foster Care (Free verse) by Dovina
I let the little turkeys out
for the first time today
ten soft foster children
kept in a neat group
by an old red hen
If Iâd let the birth mother set
sheâd trot her babies around all day
til their little legs got trembly weak
That old red hen
look at her
she keeps those babies âround her
under the tree shade
she donât let âem get all hot and tired
Listen to her
see how she clucks at âem not to go away
those little turkeys
minded by that wise old henâll
grow up strong and healthy
