Me, Myself, and I (Free verse) by TLRufener
What was that? I thought I hear a voice. Did you hear it? There it is again. Are you sure you didn't hear it? It must just be in my head. But I don't talk to Myself; Myself talks to Me. I can hear them loud and clear. I must refuse to listen though; They're telling me terrible things. Someone has been following me. I'm not sure who, Because I've never seen them. I think they're studying me; Just like an animal. Maybe they're scientist, Searching for a new lab rat. But they could be from the government, Looking for an insane criminal. Why would they look at me? I'm not insane, I'm perfectly fine. I'm okay, No nothing wrong here. But maybe they're aliens, Or demons, Looking for a new host body. They follow me everywhere. I know they're behind me, Watching; Looking; Studying; They're always there. They won't go away. Why won't they go away? I run away, But they're still there. I hide in a dark closet, And somehow they still follow. I turn around, No one's there. The little voice is back. It says to turn around. "Someone's behind you." It whispers. I'm not listening, I just look off into empty space. Stupid little voice, It doesn't know what it's talking about. I'm being followed. Did you know that? They've been there for a while. I wish they'd go away. They're really beginning to bug me. I wonder who it could be? Maybe it's Myself, Trying to find Me. But that wouldn't be right, Because Me is trying to find Myself. Maybe I should look, I might be able to figure out who's there. I knows everything. I know Me, Me knows Myself, Myself knows I. They should have tea sometime, They would make wonderful company for each other.
