Jesus in a leisure suit (Free verse) by Imago
I drive 500 miles every week
and you'd think
It would bring me closer
to where I wanna be
But my mind is floating off the berm
and my heart is 1000 miles across the ocean
I take the same exits
but none of them lead me home
and sometimes I'd prefer
to stare at the remains
of bugs on my windshield
than gaze down the mindless abyss
of that rotting highway
It's amazing how many maroon Ford Explorers there are
and then I arrive
My job is simple and dull
sweep, scrub, mop buff
in 4 hours I'm gone again
But today I saw Jesus in a leisure suit
and that girl in Puerto Rico
who stopped calling me a week ago
who I loved till I was stupid
She can keep my heart
I'll just get me one
of those plastic ones
I thought this and smiled
and got into my maroon Ford Explorer and drove on
