friend (Other) by kthulah
your kind of friendship is
the consolation prize
in a fixed game
it is a beige baby born
with an ironic surname
it is 400 years
of house work
instead of field work
it is not passing me
around to your pals
for the pork
whatever excuses
i know the truth
like the handprint of a slap
whatever reasons
you tell me or yourself
that i'm a friend with a flap
if my mother was a ruth
and not a mary
if even though we don't want to
we could marry
if not for an accident of birth
you could see what my love
or my friendship was worth
my friendship would drive me to call
if i don't see you for some days
you would never have to ask
because you'd never have to wonder
if i liked you and which ways
but wonder and ask
is what i had to do
and my answer is
that i have better friends than you
