stairway below (Free verse) by crwncka1
the candles burn away, down the spiraling dim lit stairway, all that is seen fades away, in the darkness that haunts, these chambers of hell, though the terrible silence, the morphing sounds are heard, as the walls seem to come alive, echoing behind are times gone, nothing left but growing darkness, for now the time has come, to take the walk down, this corkscrew of hell, where the horror bleeds off, the bones from inside, but hopefully down the way, somewhere to be found, though the presence of lost souls, felt chilling up the spleen, as I now walk beyond, the last lit candlestick, on down though the blackness, past the point of no return, will be the love I found, only to have it lost away, somewhere down below, in this dungeon of pure evil

Up the ladder: New York
Down the ladder: Homeless
