The Midnight that Wanders (Free verse) by Lifeboatman
I waited, waited for you Up until the midnight that wanders What those dozen tolls are for I may never know Maybe you'll come home then Or maybe I will forget And know you of any place where we can be free?

Up the ladder: plea bargain
Down the ladder: time and clocks
