Perfect (Free verse) by misused
A tiny dancer filled with grace Spins slowly Her delicate balance untouched By the vastness of the world She is perfect Every turn and bend Every inch From her porcelain face to her silk toes So long as there is music She spins Reflecting her flawless beauty to the world But shut the lid And all goes silent Hidden in the shadows She cries when no one’s watching When the music stops She breaks down Her face that was at one time perfect Is now tear-streaked and filled with pain Her eyes that once shone with excitement Now scream pleas for help to those who meet them Her arms Once held proudly over her head Now show in bruises and blood how she feels inside Portrayed to the world Is this retouched image she produces Trapped forever in a moment of false ecstasy But look beyond the closed lid See the true image of inner torment And addiction to her sorrow

Up the ladder: Back Home
Down the ladder: The Parsing Pome
