I Should Have Jumped (Free verse) by TLRufener
Tears sting at my eyes as regret draws heavy on my heart I miss even more each day now that we’re apart You held my hand and said that you loved me You asked me to jump, but I was afraid to be free Now I realized that I could have taken that leap Because I know that you have opened your arms to catch me All I can think about and dream about is me and you I have tasted your love and I know it is forever true I should have jumped when we sat close in the rain I never should have thought about facing the pain My heart is heavy with the regret of what I didn’t do The next time we meet I will take your hand and jump with you No more worries of what to say when the questions arise Never again will I allow my thoughts to over-power the love in your eyes I have thought too much already and stopped another memory I will never let the rain drops go to waste again over what others might see I will love you for always with all of my heart and soul It is now that I see I don’t always need to be in control A randomness of kisses is all I really need in my life The next time it is just you and I will be a very special night All of my fears have been cast aside for risks All I need to be free is just one more sweet kiss
