Cold (Free verse) by Dovina
Fire spat and hissed
inside an iron box
sunâs rays rejuvenated
inside my house and bones
Fill her full, heâd told me
close her tight
damper angled
inlet screwed down low
blower on, vents open
I went upstairs
felt the windowsâ frost.
And there I knew
Heâd taught me well
to manage fire
survive a chilly bed
and in the end
to throw it all away
