The Goodbye Hug (Free verse) by Amythest

A Six year old boy sat down in his class one day, and listened to his teacher speak, She told them to draw something they loved, Something soft and warm and meek. So the class got to work , One by one each child began to draw. The teacher walked by, looked at the drawings, And was amazed by the things she saw. Some drew their families, friends and pets, Mystical creatures unicorns and waterfalls. But no matter what each child drew, The teacher realized she loved them all. Then she walked by that same little boy, And noticed the flower he drew. She said to him "My how did you learn to draw like that? He replied," from the mommy I knew." See I picked a daisy like this just for her And she gave me a great big hug. Even though she accidently squished the flower, I still could feel her love. Still however, the flower doesnt matter Because there's much more been us than this, There's a whole wide world, Or maybe more that keeps me from the mommy I miss. She always noticed the little things though, So I guess she noticed me. She saw who I was, who I am inside And what I can grow to be. So when I do good in school or sports, I want her to be proud of me. And sometimes I just look at the sky and say " mommy I hope you can see." Oh I'll see her again though, don't cry for me Because I know shes waiting up there. But it was too late the teacher;s eyes were filled with water, And all she could do was stare. H-how do you do it? Live like this..? Aren't you frightened hopeless or scared? Oh everyday the littled boy smiled, but my mom told me she was there. Everytime I cry, awake, happy or sad, she sees she tells me so. See my mommy and I have this special connection that no one else would know. I pray for her, and hope shes talking to me, she's my comforter guide and friend. And don't you think I'll lose touch with her, when I know she'll see me through in the end.
