Sophisticant (Free verse) by Bluesee
Went uptown to Sophisticant
Where all people can pay the rant
Where the ladies with all their sins
Wrapped around them like dead-mink grins
Walked the streets where no dust can lie
Where Mercedes and Porsches vie
For the front of the pack like wolf
At the Stop sign and pont-de-neuf
Turned the corner and saw the steps
All one hundred beneath the wept
Tress all hanging as if in shame
Sad as if they would take the blame
Take the blame for not being kept
Kept to riches so well adept
Keen at prisons of other fates
Sealing others in iron gates
Rang the door bell and waited there
Waiting there 'til the butler's stare
Called me near but not very dear
Called me up but not too sincere
Asked the lady if she would bite
Thinking I was just too contrite
Asked the lady if she would learn
Of the cause which we'd all soon burn
Said she me in a cackling voice
Haughty, sure, and without remorse
Killing, simple, without disguise
Deadly, sure, without compromise
(said she)
"I've had enough of you feeble boys
With your idle hours and electric toys
I can't be bothered with your simple jokes
And your noisy pranks
And your aging folks"
"I do not want to be one of you
With your runny noses
And your endless queues
With your tiny concerns
And your dweezle minds
With those manic moments
And your meager finds"
"Cause Ive done that and Been there and had that and seen where
A mass of people live in wretched disgrace"
"And I won't be one of you without a face"
So I had no choice
So I turned and left
Now I wonder
Still
Can I ever rest
