i won't (Free verse) by elizabethann

they told us to remember september. they asked us to pray. they begged us to cry. i didn't. images of people jumping from inferno above, not below. we heard their bodies hit the ground they didn't want us to forget the sound. a human jumping from one hundred stories up was fodder for their specials. i couldn't mourn something that was just another headline. we had mixed emotions and not a soul to help. i ignored my pain i guess it was too hard for everyone else. they still run the specials reminding us of pain we try to forget and i won't shed a tear.

Dearest Grandma Speedy-nai, towards the end, regressed and thought that she was again that 18 year old winged wonder that so turned heads in the year of yester. Whenever they spoke to her she told all the boys to please stop flirting with her. We didn't say anything and let her enjoy her last few flights of happy befuddlement.

She didn't realize that she was in possession of dried up salty mucus, why would we hurt her by chopping her wings of extra comfort?

She is missed but I visit her and pooscat every day and place a wreath of skimmia japonica upon her mound whenever possible.
