Unholy War (Lyric) by marvelis

Today we sit right on the edge, About to unleash an army of rage. Is it right or, for that matter, even fair? Spilled blood will be the burden we bear. We try to read between the lines, But forget to listen to the times. We ignore the sentiment of the world; And so they just ignore our very word. The American word used to be gold. Now at the very most it is dead cold. We were once the highest rated. Now we are simply the most hated. Where did we go wrong? We were a nation so strong. Let us start by reading every line For they hold truth, which is divine. Not long ago we were attacked. Vengeful vows were never backed. For vengeance we were going to climb every mountain. Over a year our President has not ushered "bin Laden". Now we even want to change a nation's way of life and culture. Afterwards devour its precious oil like a scavenging vulture. Where in the world have we found this right That we have chained on the holy altar so tight? Why can we not see the record-setting war protests occurring? Nations around this Earth against our "adventure" concurring. Have we truly become this blind? A single six-thorn star does bind. All over the world people are putting their lives up as human shields. A desperate means so that one forsaken and blind venture yields. The recent actions of the Sean Penns and Martin Sheens, the media views with horror. But to these men, and others like them, I say, "Thank you, and may you always prosper." We say we do this for democracy and ask for trust, When we do it for other causes that are truly unjust. Our true leader is from outside this nation. Moreover he believes he is God's holy creation. Willing to lead a world into misery And finally end a diminishing legacy. When a nation in a severe and worsening economic crisis Rejects thirty billion dollars and against this war rises, It makes you wonder are we on the right path? Is it right, upon a people to unleash our wrath? Should millions of women, children, and the elderly suffer So one nation can be the region's undisputed power? Soon we will open the door and a nation will flood; Not with life's essence, but with a people's blood. That of the innocent and of the guilty. Is this the thing to do . . . really? Where, in what is holy, do we get this power? Who are we to decide a people's final hour?

The sentiment is excellent. War begins on Tuesday, so they say. It will be the most ironic war in history if America defies the UN to attack Iraq precisely because it is itself in breach of numerous UN resolutions. Regrettably, your versification isn't as impeccable as your politics.
