Nobody (Free verse) by Nicholas Jones

Follow me to the roof Of Shining Tor in the snow, While in the bar of the Cat, Weary hikers rest feet That have tramped over moors. And toast their rambling success But I am alone now A single witness Or follow me, At a discreet distance Down a cobbled lane I will lead you nowhere useful I can only write In sprawling capitals Between the houses I might find peace In the quiet passage Come with me; Derbyshire Bridge Is a mile away Look from the summit Valleys and lakes Disappear into darkness Of hidden depressions The process scares me I need the support Of a travelling companion Stronger than myself. Who can diminish the landcape And is not disturbed By suburban streets. But you did not follow me I should not have expected That you could be of help I climbed Shining Tor alone, The mud tracks were frozen And the snow lay deep While at home I avoided the cobbles. A single lone witness To constant phenomena Who requires little help.

enjoyable, evocative, and nifty. I saw the lonesome walker.
