The Cross Foxes (Free verse) by Gwyrfab

Come all valiant Welshmen, I'll tell you a tale Of the boozing of beer and the swilling of ale, 'Twas in the Cross Foxes, the pride of fair Rhos, We drank all they had and the pub had to close. Hideho, Hidehi, In Rhosllanerchrugog we drank the pub dry. The National Eisteddfod was on Ponciau Flat But Undeb y Tancwyr saw little of that, They slept all the day and they drank all the night The gin, rum and whisky, the dark and the light. Hideho, Hidehi, In Rhosllanerchrugog we drank the pub dry. From Cardiff and Rhondda and Dowlais so fair The principal pinters of Gwalia were there, They gathered together and guzzled with glee From the banks of the Teifi to the banks of the Dee. Hideho, Hidehi, In Rhosllanerchrugog we drank the pub dry. Brave Yuri Gagarin he flew through the air And saw all the jollification down there, Said, it's all very well to be up in the sky But I'd rather be helping to drink the pub dry. Hideho, Hidehi, In Rhosllanerchrugog we drank the pub dry. The Gorsedd were marching with nightshirts so clean, The sexiest sight that Rhos had ever seen, Said Cynan, I think we're a wonderful lot ??? But next to a woman I do like a pint pot. Hideho, Hidehi, In Rhosllanerchrugog we drank the pub dry. The landlord he gave on the pump a last pull, His cellar was empty, his till it was full, The barmaid was fainting, the potman was weak ??? Thank God the Eisteddfod's not here every week! Hideho, Hidehi, In Rhosllanerchrugog we drank the pub dry. The Temperance Union they loved the sight Of a pub with its doors shut on Saturday night, They said, Carry on drinking without any pause, You are doing great work for the Temperance Cause. Hideho, Hidehi, In Rhosllanerchrugog we drank the pub dry.

This has the feel of something old and timeless and traditional. It takes talent to accomplish that.
