Cane (Free verse) by richa

Is it you, that cane-tap, you are blind, I get it, but it is morning and there is only you and I and the road so please stop. I would never poison me a pigeon or hang for any crime and yet however far I step from arsenic and want I still hear your cane-tap, you are blind. I am descended of Adam but you are old and no nearer to heaven.

I thought of John Newton, an English slave ship captain for 20 years. He quit all that, sided with the abolition movement, and wrote the song of the movie's title, "Amazing Grace" When he got old and blind, he said, "I was blind, but now I see," and then asked the question, "Did I write that?" A good movie.
