america's promise (Free verse) by dylansong

Promises of America Promises of a dream All dreams broken Nothing to gasp onto All but forgotten Shattered like a Million pieces of glass Look around you The pieces everywhere A person with no name No place to grow A bleak existence Every day a living hell The long road Never a stop sign Always on the move Where is home The only bed A Un painted park bench Late at night No safe haven No words said Once in awhile Can you spare a dime? Nobody around to hear No books to read Nothing for the mind Like a fishing pond Without fish The only sound An empty stomach Just another pain To be ignored All but forgotten Cast a side like A cigarette butt All but burnt Flames of desire Growing dimmer Nothing to keep it lit Wind blowing it out No balance of wealth Nothing to count on Where is Uncle Sam? Sleeping in a house No place to hide Always out in the open Nothing too see Like a cracked sidewalk Passing them in the streets Eyes down, no words said Crisscrossing your steps Walking in the opposite direction You have the promise A place to dwell The only pains People in the street

A Un painted park bench .... is this a typo or politically subtle ? and are people a pain to the promise or visa versa ? too staccato for me but i live outside the promise and only live with the threat ..... 4
