a hero jfk (Free verse) by dylansong

On that dread full day The day of all days A day to go down in history It echo???s today, Just like yesterday A shadow passing Over this great land No amount of sunshine Can get through The dark black haze Time has not healed The wound still bleeding 30 years later Questions still being ask Nobody knows the truth The history books A tale they tell Every generation Learning of a fallen hero Trying to build a dream for all Riding in a car A young bride A princess to all Watching her prince Fall into complete darkness Ask anyone Where they were In great detail, A tear in their eyes They will tell in great detail A cold class room At the office In front of the television Reliving their nightmares Engraved in their memory The reason for it all Nobody knows A mad man Like no other A devil in disguise War on the horizon Everyone was expecting The great bomb to fall To end it all A bigger bomb fell Who would have thought? The chosen poison A bullet from A smoking gun Ending it all Someone afraid of peace Had to take his turn Dancing with the devil Sending a nation to its knees Screaming it can???t be real One man???s idea Dreams of peace Of unity for all color???s Brotherly love All down the drain A lonely bell heard Through out the world The horrible disbelief All the tears Turning into streams There was a glimmer A glance of paradise A split second in time For all to get A piece of gold One mans dreams Stolen from a nations hearts A spirit with passion A soul with love So young to loose it A little boy, Saluting a fallen hero Gasping his mothers hand His daddy gone A nightmare he can???t awake from Gone but not forgotten The flag still flapping The flame lit So long ago Still burns so brightly

It's good to commermorate the man, but this is a bit idealised.... what about JFK's womanizing, the Bay of Pigs, the increased involvement in Vietnam? JFK has been turned into a saint so much that we forget that he was just a man.
