Servant Girl or Princess? (Free verse) by TLRufener

When will my knight Come on his steed? I’m a princess in my castle Wondering where could he be? We danced together on air, At the ball he gave for me; A sparkling white gown, My hair up on my head, The beautiful golden coach Led me to him. My knight in shining armor Knows not who I am. I ran from the ball, I left my glass slipper on the stairs, He is looking for me now; I hope he looks here. I am disguised as a servant girl, And I pray he will find me. For I long to be his bride, Together forever we will be. As we look from the balcony To the kingdom we rule; King and Queen forever, For all eternity. But I am still a servant girl Who will always be lonely, Alone in a world that is so cold. I live amongst the ashes And obey everything I am told. So many places he has been, Many princesses he has saved, He has slayed dragons and monsters, And outwitted sorcerers and magicians. Could he possibly ever love me? Or am I to always be a servant girl with so many dreams? I hope he will come for me; I have waited so long. But I am just a servant girl Wishing to be a princess.

Was he in shining armour at the ball? Must be a pretty tough guy to dance the Volta with sixty kilos of metal on him...
